A small town of about 2,000 people, Marfa is hard to describe. The town is a contradiction. It is an authentic West Texas town and an artist’s Mecca. It is a cowboy’s dream and an artist’s realm. It is where the desert meets the mountains and where hipster meets down-home Texas. It’s comfortable, homey, and eclectic; the kind of place that makes you want to stay a while.
Well, we went to Florida. When I told Vince that I wanted to go to Florida as one of our trips this year, he looked at me like I was insane. You may also be wondering why anyone would willingly travel to Florida and the answer is simply: Harry Potter and manatees. These are two things I love dearly and wanted to spend my birthday experiencing both! I had a lot of fun in a very short, whirlwind trip and now we don’t have to go to Florida again!
I grew up in the midwest and when I moved to Texas in my early twenties, there was a bit of culture shock. I’d been to Texas before, but there’s a difference between tourist charm and this being your home. One of my first realizations of pure shock was getting lunch at a local diner and looking around to realize that there were like 6 people wearing cowboy hats sitting around me. For the most part, I quickly adapted but there are still things that are so bizarre to me. For instance, my first Easter here I remember being so confused as to why everyone was camping. Finally, I asked Vince what the deal was. He looked at me like I was crazy and responded “its Easter” to which I gave him a blank stare and said “WHY IS EVERYONE CAMPING?” and he said “so they can BBQ on Easter” and looked at me like I was dumb. Obviously I still didn’t understand. Like why would you BBQ on Easter? You eat ham and deviled eggs on Easter, duh. Vince was literally disgusted at my idea of eating ham on Easter and I was still confused about BBQing.
Cascarones, however, are one Spring/Easter/Fiesta tradition I can get behind. Oh you mean, I just get to sneak up and smash eggs full of confetti on someone’s head and make a huge mess and people just laugh with me and think it’s funny? I get to walk around all day with confetti in my hair and no one thinks it’s weird? Sign me up!
Hello friends! We are back from our glorious beach vacation and busy still reminiscing and, you know, planning our next big trip (Nicaragua, here we come!). Costa Rica was everything we could have wished for and more and we were so happy to get to relax in such a beautiful setting. I don’t think Central America gets the recognition it deserves. It’s so close, so lush and beautiful and filled with amazing people and adventures.
How do you stay motivated to eat healthy and work out?
I am very slowly working on making our little apartment our home. It is going pretty slowly but it’s getting there. Normally the bathroom is kind of last on my list of things to decorate but it’s been bothering me lately and becoming a place where I put things that I don’t want elsewhere so I don’t get rid of them and I need it to be more relaxing and simple so I think it might be my next project.
Winter is so harsh on my skin. Try this DIY face cream to keep your skin moisturized, silky smooth and blemish free!
Literally everything I love is in this picture right here. If this was all I had, my life would still be full of so much joy and so much happiness. I am the luckiest girl in the world to have you in my life. To come home to you pooh-bearing it on the couch, to spend my night’s giggling in bed with you, to watch movies in the bath tub, to wake up to your handsome face, to share meals, to share new experiences, to share my life with you. So here’s to making 31 the best year of your life and here’s to upping the ante every year after.
